SCN3 Eastern Cycle Freeway

Southampton Cycle Network Route 3

Summary

  • Where: Quayside Road to Botley Road
  • When: Completing Spring 2020
  • What: Creation of SCN3 Eastern Cycle Freeway
  • Why: Encourage sustainable travel with a new, high quality cycle route in the east of the city

The SCN3 Eastern Cycle Freeway is part of the Southampton Cycle Network (SCN). The main route to the east of the city will benefit from major investment on A3024 Bursledon Road to create the new cycle freeway on Bursledon Road, linking Bitterne Road East to Botley Road.

A cycle cityway will also be created from Bitterne Village to A3024 Bitterne Road West and onto the existing shared use cycleway to the city via Angel Crescent, Peartree Avenue, Chessel Avenue, Athelstan Road and Quayside Road.

SCN3 will include a segregated cycle freeway away from traffic, priority over side road crossings and improved crossing points.

Other traffic calming and minor improvements continue to be made on routes in Sholing and Bitterne.
