Read transport funding bids
Large or complex transport schemes and highway maintenance cannot generally be funded solely from the Council's annual allocation from the Department for Transport for transport schemes and highway maintenance.
The Council looks for alternative funding sources and makes applications to finance key transport projects in the city.
The current bids for funding, and their outcome, are outlined below:

Active Travel England is the government's executive agency responsible for walking, wheeling and cycling. They require us to submit annual self-assessments that are used to inform levels of funding for active travel. Southampton City Council assessed itself as being a Level 2 authority out of 4 which has been agreed with Active Travel England. Other Transport Grants
Southampton City Council also receives a number of other grants to deliver on the Local Transport Plan (Connected Southampton) and supporting strategies and plans. These grants have to be spent in accordance with the grant conditions.

The funding is also being used to promote bus services and kickstart two new bus services in Shirley and along Hill Lane to better connect residents to local schools, leisure and recreation facilities and shops. |
