Coming directly from the team on the ground and in our planning and transport departments, we hope to provide comprehensive weekly updates to residents and road users. The project on Bitterne Road East began on Monday 17th February 2025, and will be completed within approximately 7 weeks; these updates will explain a little of what we are doing on the site and any changes we might have, and address any concerns we might see from residents that cannot be answered directly.
If you have a question regarding the work, would like to pass on some feedback, or anything else, please reach out to roadworks@southampton.gov.uk.

Groundworks have begun, and ducting installed underground for the new pedestrian crossing near Somerset Avenue.
-
Additional drainage is being installed near the new crossing in Somerset Avenue. Gullies in the area have been cleared and broken drainage mended, and Southern Water have been requested to resolve some issues with their equipment whilst our team have the closure on Bitterne Road East, which will mean they will not need to close the road at a future date.
-
Additional fencing (1) has had to be brought in to the scheme to prevent drivers from over running the green area between Milbury Crescent and Bitterne Road East. This was badly damaging the verges, and we had received reports from residents that this was an issue; these verges will be repaired as part of our work.
Thank you to nearby residents and businesses for their patience during the first week of work. You may see our team working on Saturday morning this week, however if so they will be finished usually by early afternoon. If you have any questions regarding this work, please reach out to roadworks@southampton.gov.uk, or follow us on Blue Sky @scchighways.bsky.social.
(1) Fencing put in place to protect the grass from being damaged further by vehicles.
