The Council’s Highways Partnership have commissioned refurbishment works to begin in July 2023. This builds upon the works that Network Rail undertook to Millbrook Footbridge in April 2021 providing a direct connection between Foundry Lane and the Millbrook Railway Station platform.
A preferred contractor has been selected for delivery of the scheme providing a long-term refurbishment of the existing footbridge. These works will largely include extensive coating removal and repainting of the entire structure (carried out whilst the bridge is surrounded with scaffolding). There will also be new surfacing provided across the footbridge and improvements made to the existing ramp access and overgrown vegetation in Foundry Lane.
Project Details
Works to Millbrook Footbridge will begin on Monday 10th July and are anticipated to last for approximately 7 weeks. This ensures the scheduled completion of the works will allow the footbridge to be reopened before the end of the school Summer holidays.
Throughout the works, scaffolding will be erected surrounding the bridge and it will be enclosed with protective sheeting to ensure that the works can be carried out safely above Millbrook Road West. As a result, it will therefore not be possible to maintain pedestrian routes across the bridge whilst the works are carried out. The following diversion routes will therefore be in place from Monday 10th July:
Whilst the works are carried out, traffic will be maintained on Millbrook Road West wherever possible, as it is recognised that this is key route into the City, although some overnight road closures and lane restrictions will be required. The planned programme for these closures and restrictions is detailed below:
