We are coordinating a number of planned works in St Denys between January and March, which includes the planned modification of junction mouths for five of the roads joining St Denys Road which form the second phase of the St Denys ATZ scheme. We are also coordinating with Gas Distribution Company SGN who are replacing a gas main along St Denys Road and Adelaide Road. Within this period we also plan to begin the trial closure of Priory Road North junction with St Denys Road but only after completing works at Kent Road junction.
These works are planned to begin from 11 January and continue over a 14 week period (see map above, which can be viewed in full screen here). Work will be delivered in phases that are carefully planned so that resident access is always maintained; details are as follows:
1b) Stanley Road junction: Continuous crossing* installation is planned to begin 11 January for 3 weeks and requires the closure of the junction to vehicles for the duration. Pedestrian access will remain, motorist diversion will be via Adelaide Road.
1c) Aberdeen Road junction: Continuous crossing* installation is planned to begin 11 January for 3 weeks and requires the closure of the junction to vehicles for the duration. Pedestrian access will remain, motorist diversion will be via Priory Road.
2a) St Denys Road: Gas mains replacement is planned to begin 1 February for 3 weeks on the westbound side. SGN have said they plan to start at the junction of Dundee Road and work toward Adelaide Road. Two way traffic will be maintained along St Denys Road but with some road narrowing. SGN will be contacting those directly affected closer to the time.
2b) Adelaide Road: Gas mains replacement is planned to begin from 1 February for 8 weeks, from the junction with St Denys Road working southbound to the end Adelaide Road. These works will require the closure of Adelaide Road but with access for residents via a signed diversion route. The location of the working area will change as the gas main replacement progresses. SGN will be contacting those directly affected closer to the time.
3) Priory Close junction: Continuous crossing* installation is planned to begin 8 February for 1 week. This junction isn’t getting a raised crossing due to conflict with utility services, the junction is already quite narrow so is not being altered. As there is no alternative access to Priory Close, the works are being carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am. Access will be maintained with temporary signals on St Denys Road and within Priory Close.
4) Kent Road junction: Continuous crossing* installation has been postponed until 19 April for 2 weeks and requires the closure of the junction to vehicles for the duration. Pedestrian access will remain, motorist diversion will be via Priory Road.
5) Priory Road North junction trial closure: At the junction with St Denys Road. This trial has been postponed while we review the impact of the other trials. More details about the trial process and how and when you can make comments is available here if this goes ahead. We will be writing to those households directly affected closer to the time.
6) Adelaide Road junction: Continuous crossing* installation is planned to begin from the end of March for 2 weeks and requires the closure of the junction to vehicles for the duration. Work won’t start until the impact of the gas works has finished. Pedestrian access will remain, motorist diversion will be via Stanley Road.
7) Aberdeen Road and Priory Road Rain Garden: At the entrance to the footpath, installation to begin in early summer for up to three weeks. This rain garden feature will add planting, natural drainage and improved access for residents to this footpath. We will write to residents at the location closer to the time.
8) Tree planting: We are investigating the possible locations for trees at various locations. Installation if it can go ahead is likely to start from late Spring. We will update the website once we’ve had a chance to review our options. We will write to residents at the locations closer to the time.
9) Dundee Road improvements: We are planning to install these improvements in front of the school over the summer holidays. We will update residents on Dundee Road closer to the time.
We will be monitoring traffic in the area and making changes in response. For instance, adjusting traffic signal priorities where it might help. These works are carefully planned to follow in order. However, they are also weather dependant. If there is any change to dates, we will update the website and place advanced warning signs with the new dates at the locations ahead of work starting.
We are also working on designs to improve to the St Denys Road and Thomas Lewis Way junction to balance and improve priority to account for changes to the traffic using this route. However, as this is dependant on the outcome of the trials in St Denys, these changes won’t be confirmed until after the conclusion of the trials. We will keep you updated a soon as we know more.
