Extension of 20mph speed limit

20Mph (1)

In 2025, a 20mph speed limit was introduced on residential roads either side of Portswood Broadway. Feedback has been positive overall, and there have been requests to extend the area covered by this speed limit. Such extensions are consistent with Southampton City Council’s policy, which supports lower speed zones where communities request them and funding is available.

The proposed extension area (please see the map below) includes Church Lane, which has been part of the 20mph zone on a trial basis so far. A formal consultation on this extension will take place via a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), following the same process used previously. This consultation is now open. You can read more and have your say here.
