In 2025, a 20mph speed limit was introduced on residential roads either side of Portswood Broadway. Feedback has been positive overall, and there have been requests to extend the area covered by this speed limit. Such extensions are consistent with Southampton City Council’s policy, which supports lower speed zones where communities request them and funding is available.
The proposed extension area includes Church Lane, which has been part of the 20mph zone on a trial basis so far. A formal consultation on this extension will take place via a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), following the same process used previously. Dates for the consultation and the link to comment will be published on the web page in due course.
If your road is not currently included in the 20mph zone and you would like it to be considered for inclusion, please let us know as part of the consultation feedback. Further extensions may be possible depending on community interest and available resources.
