Project Details

Work took place on the junction of Belmont Road/St Denys Road to improve facilities for buses, cyclists, and pedestrians travelling around this area, which would in turn improve traffic flow travelling from Bitterne Triangle to Portswood. These junction improvements form part of the St Deny’s Transport Corridor.

Measures implemented have included:

  1. Replacement of the traffic signals at the junction of Belmont Road and St Denys Road with dedicated crossing points for cyclists and pedestrians, along with new tactile paving.
  2. Relocating the westbound bus stop on St Denys Road closer towards Portswood.
  3. Narrowing of the junction of Belmont Road North with St Denys Road, preventing vehicle exit and making it entrance only.
  4. The introduction of a segregated cycle lane travelling westbound into Portswood from the junction with Thomas Lewis Way.

In March 2022, the Council conducted a consultation on the scheme proposals for the St Denys Transport Corridor which you can view here.

This scheme is now completed.
