Project Details
The junctions have seen refurbishment and modernisation of the traffic signals with new technology that allows them to be more efficient, as well as adding Bus Priority (London Road Junction only) to improve bus journey times and reliability. Bus priority improvements assist buses in crossing the Ring Road more efficiently at this junction.
The pedestrian crossings were improved including a new signalised crossing on the west side of London Road junction. The uncontrolled crossing across Above Bar was improved to a signalised pedestrian crossing. The two staggered signalised pedestrian crossings on the east side of the London Road junction and on London Road were replaced by straight through signalised pedestrian crossings allowing pedestrians to cross in one green phase
The scheme also includes a refresh of the yellow box junction in line with the most up to date guidance.
Footways and resurfacing
Footways and the carriageway have been resurfaced. High quality materials have been used for footway paving and new kerbs were added.
People with limited mobility
Footpath and crossing facilities for people with limited mobility as well as those who are walking and cycling have been upgraded so it is safer and more direct to cross between the City Centre, London Road, Bedford Place and the Parks.
