Grosvenor Square

Grosvenor Squre

Project Details

Grosvenor Square junction with Cumberland Place has been redeveloped and transformed with Grosvenor Square turned into a one-way road. This allowed the addition of a contraflow cycle lane and floating parking along Grosvenor Square.

The Ring Road junction benefits from improved, safer crossings including signalised pedestrian crossings across Grosvenor Square and on the eastern arm, where previously there were no pedestrian crossing facilities.  It also includes a new signalised cycle crossing linking Watts park to the contraflow cycle lane along Grosvenor Square, and advanced stop line with early release cycle signals coming out of Grosvenor Square.

The scheme also includes 5 new trees along Grosvenor Square.

EV Charging

Southampton's first on-street charging points were installed on Grosvenor Square.

Footways and resurfacing
Footways and the carriageway have been resurfaced. High quality materials have been used for footway paving and new kerbs were added.

People walking and those with limited mobility
Footpath and crossing facilities for people with limited mobility as well as those who are walking and cycling have been upgraded so it is safer and more direct to cross between the City Centre, Grosvenor Square multi-storey carpark, Bedford Place and the Parks.
