Project details
The East Park Terrace Sustainable Corridor has now been completed.
This will allow public realm improvements along this link creating a better and more enjoyable environment for people walking and cycling. It will also create better connectivity between the university, the parks and the City Centre.
East Park Terrace is a central route connected to Charlotte Place Roundabout and New Road, housing the campus of Solent University and nearby language schools, local businesses, as well as popular bus routes.
East Park Terrace was identified as an area for upgrade as part of our City Centre Transformation, with the road being transformed into a sustainable bus/cycle/taxi only corridor to improve bus journey times as well as journey reliability for the well used bus route, as well as creating a more enjoyable area for those walking, wheeling or scooting. Emergency service vehicles will be exempt from the restriction.
We have created an enhanced pedestrian environment to connect Solent University with the nearby university accommodation, nearby parks, and local businesses, providing safer access for students and visitors while also reducing the longer-term climate impact in the area by encouraging more active travel options. We are hoping to return in Autumn 2024 to refresh the green and red anti-skid surfacing, however this will be communicated closer to the time.
Construction date: October 2023 - July 2024
