SCN5 Eastern Quietway Completed Improvements

March 2024: Spring Road/Station Road and Miller's Pond

We have added a new raised table crossing for pedestrians opposite the footpath entrance to Millers Pond as well as anti-skid road surfacing on Spring Road. New speed cushions have also been added between Miller’s Pond Gardens and Pinegrove Road. Developments were added to improve public visibility and encouragement of traffic calming.

February 2024: Spring Road/Station Road

We have upgraded the accessibility on Spring road by adding parallel crossings for pedestrians and cyclists to improve safety and also resurfaced and repainted the road for a clearer cross junction. The scheme has further introduced general maintenance such as traffic signs, bollards and lighting. The developments were funded by the UK Government’s Transforming Cities Fund.

February 2024: Manor Road South/Portsmouth Road Junction

We have upgraded the traffic signals and push-button crossing on Portsmouth Road to improve safety for those crossing for access to the shops and the schools in the area, and also resurfaced some of the footways in the area. We have installed shared-use on the footways of Portsmouth Road, to improve cycle journey times.

November 2023: Cranbury Road/Station Road Junction 

We have added a new zebra crossing on Station Road to improve pedestrian access to and from Sholing Rail Station, as well as a new pedestrian island at the junction of Cranbury Road and Station Road. The vehicle exit from Cranbury Road to Station Road has been changed to left-turn only, which will also improve safety and make it easier to cross Cranbury Road.
