Work Information

May 2024: Completed!

The final phase of works involving Eastern Quietway are finished! The developments were made to ensure the safety and visibility of pedestrians and cyclists alongside have the aim to calm traffic. Overall the scheme has:

  • Placed a raised table at the junction of Spring Road and Station Road.
  • Added a red text-printed surface across the raised table.
  • Introduced parallel crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Realigned the uncontrolled tactile crossings on the east and west arms.
  • Carried out general maintenance alongside repairs where needed roadside.
  • Resurfaced the junction and added speed cushions.

We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience whilst this work had been ongoing.

April 2024: Spring Road/Station Road and Miller's Pond update

The resurfacing, relining the road markings and laying of an anti-skid surface has been completed, apologies for the delay and huge thank you to the residents for your patience!

March 2024: Spring Road/Station Road update and Miller's Pond

The third scheme within Eastern Quietway has finished at the Spring Road/ Station Road junction with Millers Pond developments. A new raised table crossing for pedestrians opposite the footpath entrance to Millers Pond has been placed as well as anti-skid road surfacing on Spring Road aiding traffic calming. New speed cushions have also been added between Miller’s Pond Gardens and Pinegrove Road.

February 2024: Spring Road/Station Road

The third scheme within Eastern Quietway has finished at the Spring Road/Station Road Junction. Developments include a new raised table junction, parallel crossings and footway resurfacing; improving public visibility and encouragement of traffic calming. The scheme has introduced general maintenance such as traffic signs and lighting. The scheme has been funded by the UK Government’s Transforming Cities Fund.

January 2024: Manor Road South/Portsmouth Road

The second scheme within Eastern Quietway has finished at the Manor Road South/Portsmouth Road junction. We have upgraded the traffic signals and pedestrian crossing on Portsmouth Road to improve safety for those accessing the shops and schools in the area. We have also installed shared-use in the area for cyclists, and resurfaced some of the footways.

Later in 2024, there may be an opportunity for us to perform some surfacing works on Garton Road, however this has not been programmed as of yet.

 

September 2023: Cranbury Road/Station Road Junction 

The first scheme within Eastern Quietway has finished at the Cranbury Road/Station Road junction. We have installed a new zebra crossing on Station Road to improve pedestrian access to and from Sholing Rail Station, as well as a new pedestrian island at the junction of Cranbury Road and Station Road. The vehicle exit from Cranbury Road to Station Road has changed to left-turn only, which will improve safety and make it easier to cross Cranbury Road.
