Our Transforming Cities programme outlines our ambitious goal to transform gateways into the city centre. This includes our proposals for a new multi-modal interchange on the south side of Central Station to provide efficient and seamless travel connections to the port and other parts of the city.
People arriving into the city centre will have access to a range of onwards travel options, including:
- New bus facilities, including bus shelters and real-time information
- Shared e-mobility (such as e-scooter hire)
- Cycle parking
- A new taxi rank, taxi parking and drop off facilities
- Car parking and loading facilities
These improvements will cater more effectively for each different mode of transport, thereby addressing the current conflicts between various users of the site.
The forecourt of the station will be widened to accommodate these proposals, while an upgraded toucan crossing to the former Toys'R'Us site will enhance connections between the station and the city centre.
The scheme also includes proposals to enhance the public space to provide a welcoming experience for everyone arriving into the city including cruise passengers. The changes will also transform the station in keeping with exciting development plans for the future Mayflower Quarter.
