November 2023- Complete!
This scheme is now complete, with the finishing touch being a red high-friction surface which was added at the end of November.
October 2023
Due to poor weather, the final part of the work programme to lay the specialist additional high friction road surface (anti-skid surface) has been postponed by a few days. To complete the work safely, supplementary road closures are needed.
To minimise inconvenience, these road closures will be over three nights, with the closure extending between Hill Lane and the Wilton Avenue junction.

September 2023
The improvement works will start on Monday 16th October 2023 and are expected to take approximately two weeks.
Improvements will include:
- New zebra crossing near Springhill School, across Milton Road at the Milton Road/Wilton Avenue end (see map illustration below)
- New red tactile paving on pavement at either end of the zebra crossing
- High friction road surface approaches to the zebra crossing
- New road markings and safety signage
- New cycle lane separators
- Removal of overgrown tree branches currently obstructing pedestrian access and views.
Restrictions will be in place during working hours as follows:
- Monday 16th to Friday 20th October between 09:30am to 2:30pm, to allow access for school pick up and drop offs. Three-way temporary traffic signals will be in operation.
- Monday 23rd to Friday 27th October (during half term), road closure.
The planned five-day road closure is needed at the end of the works to complete the road surfacing and the road markings. It will be in place day and night (24/7) from 7.30am on Monday 23rd October until the end of Friday 27th October. Access to pedestrians will not be affected and drivers are advised that a clearly marked diversion route will be in place. Yellow ‘advance warning’ signs will also be placed in the area ahead of the closure.
We have planned the work programme carefully, aiming to minimise disruption to local residents, Springhill school, and the community. We are not intending to work at weekends but the works are subject to favourable weather conditions and potentially it might be necessary to work on Saturdays.
August 2023
