Frogmore FAQs

How much is this work costing?

The project is part of a £2.4m investment to build a permanent Park and Ride facility for Southampton General Hospital, including enhancements to the local road network.

How is this project being funded?

This scheme is funded through the Transforming Cities Fund. As part of the 2020 Budget, the Chancellor announced the outcome of the Industrial Strategy’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF). The joint bid submitted in November 2019 by Southampton City Council and Hampshire County Council for Southampton and Hampshire was awarded £57m of Government funding towards the total £68.5m project and covers the three years to March 2023. The remainder of the funding is coming from local match contributions with the Council and its partners. The programme will make it easier to walk, cycle and travel by bus.

What consultation has taken place?

In March 2021, we undertook a survey about proposed changes to the junctions of Frogmore Lane, Brownhill Way, and Lower Brownhill Road. 50% of those responding agreed with the proposals, and only 30% disagreed.

You can see the full survey results.

Based on feedback from this informal consultation, the council has decided to progress plans by giving notice of its intention and entering a statutory consultation period. The closing date for comments was Friday 16 July 2021.

What alternative routes and travel options are available while works are ongoing?

If necessary, diversions will be put in place and will be clearly signposted.

While there are works ongoing, there are options and tools available to help residents replan their journeys. The Travel Southampton section of the My Journey website provides a wealth of information to help car users rethink their journeys into and around the city, especially when there are roadworks or big events which may affect trips. Visitors to the site can check for roadworks using the interactive map and explore how they might travel in a different way.

There are 3 main sections: Plan it has all you need for planning a journey using public transport, including links to live bus and train times; Move it offers tools and resources to help individuals explore walking and cycling as an alternative to car travel and Flex itencourages organisations and individuals to embrace flexible working and working from home to avoid travel during busy times.

Are there any plans to include trees for air quality and visual improvement?

The proposals include plans for landscaping improvements and new trees planted, to further enhance the area.

The roads and pavements in the area require repairs. Would this be included in the project?

Transforming Cities Fund money has been allocated to make improvements to transport infrastructure in the local area. As part of the works in thearea, some resurfacing will take place but, beyond this, TCF money cannot be used for general road maintenance issues.

The council has allocated money for pothole repairs for roads and footways. If you think your area could benefit from this, you can make this known via the pothole portal.
